Like other Annapolitans I also enjoy treating myself to an occasional Sunday morning breakfast somewhere in the City of Annapolis – remember to always support our local eateries. Fortunately there are a number of places for us to do so that include a selection of local coffee houses, one great non-pretentious cafe in Eastport, a touristy faux NY Deli, and a higher priced contemporary restaurant with variations on those typical breakfast dishes of eggs or waffles to name but a few of their selections. Oh and lets not forget about that popular local eatery where by looking at their dessert case makes one forget about even ordering breakfast.
So this morning I decided to call up a friend and asked them if they wanted to get together for breakfast which they replied certainly but it would be about 45 minutes before they could meet up with me. I said no problem and opted to walk over to the marina next door and see what folks were up to while I contemplated as to where that we would be going for breakfast later. With partially overcast skies seemingly the order of the day and the Spring Sailboat Show still going on in Ego Alley the docks at the marina were fairly quiet.
Making my way along one of the northern most docks I came across this fellow who seemed very focused on the water out there in from of them. I stopped and got out my camera in a very slow moving motion with the hope that it would not fly off. Fortunately it did not as it remained fixated on whatever was out there in the water. Just after I took this picture it suddenly flew off while skimming the surface of Back Creek and then quickly snapped up a very small fish that apparently had been the object of its previous undivided attention. It continued flying heading off into a stand of nearby trees where I finally lost sight of it. So it seems that this fellow had been waiting for breakfast just as I was doing this morning except that it got served first.
