Annapolis Maryland Picture of the Day

Earlier in the morning I simply could not understand why this Osprey chose to perch on an old abandoned piling when its nest was just 200 feet away. At this time of year there is always one adult Bay raptor resident in the nearby nest, at least for all of the years that I have lived in the area. Here at the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis the nest in the nearby channel marker is usually home to a pair of Ospreys from the beginning of the breeding season until the juveniles are ready to fly south in the summer yet today it seems eerily quite.
Unlike Tom and Audrey’s home, as seen on the Chesapeake Conservancy’s Osprey Cam, the one here at the mouth of the Severn River appears to be empty although I have spotted at least one adult in it over the last month or so but never two of them. While one can only observe the nest from a distance only time will tell if it will contain any chicks later this spring or for that matter did the other adult not return to the area this year?
I hope that this turns out not to be the case,
